ENGINE PROTECTION SYSTEM
The engine
protection system is fitted to prevent damage occurring to main engine plant.
The following functions are fitted
- Overspeed: Activated when the engine speed increases over 107% of MCR. The emergency solenoid is activated, which for the MC engine will activate the puncture valve system of the fuel pumps
The over speed is
reset by placing the maneouvring control in stop position and then restarting
the engine, once the engine revolutions have fallen.
- Shutdown: The engine will shutdown if any of the following sensors are activated:
- Lub oil low pressure 1.0bar
- Thrust bearing high temp 85*c
- J C W outlet high temp 96*c
- Camshaft lub oil low press 1.5bar
The shutdown can be configured as either
cancelable( with a time delay between activation and engine trip) or
non-cancellable which will trip the engine immediately. As with the overspeed,
the shutdown is reset by placing the lever in stop position and ten restarting
the engine.
- Slowdown: The engine will slowdown to dead slow position when one of the following sensors are activated
I.
Lub oil low pressure 1.5bar
II.
Camshaft oil low pressure 2.0bar
III.
Thrust block high temp 75*c
IV.
Piston coolant no flow
V.
Scavenge air temp high 65*c
VI.
Oil mist detection high
VII.
Cyl exhaust temp high 450*c
VIII.
High L O inlet temp 60*c
IX.
Piston coolant high temperature
The
slowdowns can also be configured as cancel able and non-callable. They are
reset once the sensor is DE activated and the engine control lever is placed
below the shut-down level or the reset slow down button is pressed.
The emergency run button fitted on the bridge panel will
over-ride the slowdown function when pressed.
