PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN WHEN BUNKERING

Company Procedures/Checklist to be followed (ISM Code), but will include:
Raise Bunkering Flag (Normally red)
Check mooring security
Fit scupper plugs
Cheek "valve line‑up"
Check tanks to ascertain quantities required
If practicable, top up double bottom tanks from wing tanks before starting to bunker
In port ‑ drip trays under connecting pipes‑ position sand bins, chemicals etc.
Ensure good communications with shore personnel, deck and bunkering control position
Try to finish on a tank which will still have ullage space when finished
Test the alarm on the overflow tank
Oil‑absorbent materials available (e.g. sawdust)
Fire extinguishers available
Check vents clear
Start bunkering at minimum pumping rate
Finish bunkering at minimum pumping rate
