HIGH HYDROGEN SULPHIDE (H2S) CONTENT CRUDE OILS

Characteristics	Vapours have a strong odour of rotting eggs in low concentrations. In high concentrations they rapidly paralyze the sense of smell.
Nature Of Hazard	FLAMMABLE - Flashpoinsts vary but are likely to be low.
	MARINE POLLUTANT- Hazardous to the marine environment.
	DEADLY, EXTREMELY TOXIC - The gas generated has a general effect on the whole body. It is an irritant of the lungs and may cause asphyxia even at low concentrations. It also damages the nervous system, and may cause immediate death. Irritating to skin and eyes.
General Precautions	DO NOT RELY ON THE SENSE OF SMELL TO DETECT H2S VAPOURS - CHECK ATMOSPHERE AT FREQUENT INTERVALS - Handle, gauge and sample in close loading condition - When gauging/sampling use self-contained breathing apparatus, complete overall dressings (boiler suits), safety helmets, plastic gloves, safety footwear - Install and watch wind indicators and, during atmospheric contamination, move upwind or cross-wind from source, not downwind - Avoid skin/eye contact with liquid. No Smoking - No Naked Lights - Use only approved/intrinsically safe electrical equipment - Comply with Anti-static handling precautions - Do not exceed the agreed pumping rates and pressures.
