incinerator starting procedure


MARPOL 73/78 ANNEX VI SURVEY CHECK LIST (Provisional)

  1. From an external examination is the incinerator in a generally satisfactory condition & free from leaks of gases or smoke?
  2. Are the warning & instruction plates legible & secured in a prominent position?
  3. Is the manufacturers name , incinerator model number/type & capacity in heat units per hour permanently marked on the incinerator?
  4. Are the incinerators casing insulation arrangement in good condition?
  5. Are the following alarms & safety devices in operational?

a) Was it verified that the O2 content in the combustion chamber is between 6-12%? Flue gas high temperature alarms & shutdown.

b) Combustion temperature control & shutdown.

c) Combustion chamber negative pressure.

d) Flame safeguards control, alarms & shutdown.

e) All alarms both visual, audible & functioning & do they indicate the cause of failure.

f) Power loss alarm & auto shutdown arrangements.

g) Charging arrangement.

h) Low fuel oil pressure alarm / shutdown.

i) Emergency stop switch & electrical isolating arrangements.

j) Interlocks?

  1. Are complete instruction & maintenance manuals available on board?
  2. Is staff suitably trained?
  3. Are drip trays fitted under each burner, pump, and strainer & are they in good condition?
  4. Was the combustion chamber flue gas outlet temperature verified as between 850-1200 °C?
