HARASSMENT OF SEAMEN AT AIRPORTS

MARINESHELF publishes articles contributed by seafarers and other marine related sites solely for the benefit of seafarers .All copyright materials are owned by its respective authors or publishers.

It is really sad to note that a lot of seafarers are being subject to harassment at airports in the name of visa and baggage allowance .While seamen used to be allowed a baggage of AROUND 40 KGS  now it has been cut down drastically ,domestic flights in India allow only 15kgs while the air hostess and stewards carry at least 30kgs while joining for a tow days trip to one week job, imagine the pain a seamen has to undergo specially crew who do contracts of 9 MONTHS  and them being allowed less baggage allowances and have to carry their working kit as well ;its time at least the shipping companies did something to see that seafarers get their due baggage allowances and not harassed at airports. Its sad that unlike other industries their are no unity among the seafarers and all are forced to carry out whatever they are asked to do without any questions but no one also supports their cause.HOPE ALL SEAFARERS RE TREATED WITH DIGNITY AND RESPECT AND NOT TAKEN UNDUE ADVANTAGE OF IN THE FUTURE.
